Taekwondo and Yong Ge

I really love the Taekwondo pattern Yong Ge. It is the first fourth degree pattern that you learn. And whilst it is not hugely long – only forty-nine movements, it starts with one of the coolest ready positions – the Warrior Ready Stance A. And it just looks so fantastic! What a powerful way to start a Taekwondo pattern! I also think it has a really interesting meaning the name of Yong Ge. It is apparently names about a general who was quite famous during the Koguryo Dynasty, and his name was Yon Gae Somoon. I also like that the 49 movements refer to the last two figures of the year 649 AD, which apparently was the year Yon Gae Somoon made the Tang Dynasty leave and to quit Korea after they had destroyed nearly 300,000 of their troops at Ansi Sung. I mean it is just steeped with such history, that no wonder it is such a powerful pattern to deliver.
